Microsoft boss Phil Spencer believes Gears of War could live on in genres other than shooting. Gamespot writes the statement was made at Xbox Fan Fest in Sydney Australia and noted Spencer and The Coalition (Gears of War 4 developer) creative director Chuck Osieja said they were "careful" in what they had to say...which might mean something is already in development.

Here's Spencer's full statement...

"Definitely when we got the team together and talked about the future of gears of war, I think there's multiple ways that you can tell that story...Multiple gameplay genres. I think it's a really big IP and it's an IP that could exist in linear form, in books--we've seen that; in different gaming genres."

If I had to make a bet, I would say Microsoft is toying with the notion of having a VR experience for Gears of War. Possibly something that is a sort of Survival Horror? Maybe that last part is just wishful thinking.
