That’s right! Everyone’s hero and renowned anime character Goku from the DragonBall series has been deemed as the ambassador for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This announcement was hinted at as the Japanese prime minister had announced that Japanese culture would be fundamental for 2020 during the Rio Olympics closing ceremony on August 21, 2016.
In fact, if you recall the event then you know the memorable moment when Shinzo Abe actually came out of a green tube dressed as Super Mario. This was the first step toward their goal of captivating a younger audience as they hope to bring more people together for the events than ever before.
While Goku is going to be the main character shown given he is the ambassador, he will not be alone. There will be multiple characters alongside him, such as Naruto, Sailor Moon, Luffy, and even Mario. There are likely to be even more characters, but these are all of the ones that are confirmed thus far.
It certainly is an interesting approach for the Olympic committee to take, but it is also likely to succeed. How do you feel about an anime icon being the ambassador to a real-life sporting competition?
