According to a Reddit post and later a report by insider-gaming, it seems that Prototype could be making a major comeback. After a long absence the series could be getting a new entry to the series.

In a Reddit thread where the majority focus is on Call of Duty Black Ops 7, the Reddit user Bigbyy claims to have also seen a Prototype sequel featuring Alex Mercer and taking place in New York.

Per the original Reddit thread:

As part of this, I also saw that another Prototype is planned with Alex Mercer returning as the protagonist. Gameplay will involve shapeshifting, transforming into other people to infiltrate areas and the game will be set in New York.

Insider-Gaming managed to get a longer quote from the user and got a little extra elaboration:

“[It] was YouGov survey which asked me to sign an NDA and confirm that I would not disclose the contents,” they said. “It then confirmed a series of features that upcoming games will include and how popular this was with me [percentage wise]. It was not a playtest but did specify that these features were already planned as part of upcoming games.”

No matter the news, we highly recommend treating this as a rumor and as such taking it with a lot of salt.

A new Prototype game would be great but considering the past of the series, I see it as unlikely.
