Quick Reviews - Aphelion and Amnesia: Rebirth Switch 2

NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: We here at GameTyrant have been absolutely bombarded with so many products and games this year already. We will be rolling out select quick reviews to let our audience know about products, games, and, DLC that may have slipped under their radar. We appreciate the amazing support from all publishers and developers out there!

Oh, what a rollercoaster! The melancholy sci-fi setting is rendered with a level of artistic care that makes you want to stop and soak in every environment, and the opening hours deliver a super strong narrative hook that pulls you in immediately. The simple gameplay works in the game's favor early on, letting the atmosphere and visuals do the heavy lifting.

We put the latest PC version of Aphelion through its paces on both an RTX 5090 and an RTX 5070, and visually this game is a stunner. NVIDIA owners in particular are in for a treat as there's a huge number of NVIDIA-focused tweaks and knobs to tinker with, and when you dial everything in, the results are genuinely breathtaking.

Unfortunately, Aphelion struggles to maintain that momentum. After such a compelling opening, the game gradually runs out of steam, and you're left with the nagging feeling that it could have been so much more. The pacing falters, the narrative loses some of its grip, and the simplicity of the gameplay that once felt intentional starts to feel like a limitation. That said, if melancholy sci-fi is your thing and you want a gorgeous game to lose yourself in, especially on a capable NVIDIA card where you can push every setting to the max, Aphelion is still very much worth the journey, even if the destination doesn't quite live up to the departure.

Here's a case where the recommendation practically writes itself. If you're a fan of the Amnesia series and you own a Switch 2, stop reading and go buy this. Amnesia: Rebirth is a gripping horror adventure that deserves a wider audience, and having it portable on Nintendo's latest hardware is a genuine treat. While our previous reviewer was a bit cooler on this entry, there's a lot to appreciate here, the atmosphere is thick, the tension is relentless, and the storytelling delivers the kind of slow-burn dread that the series does best. Now, is this the most polished port you'll ever play? No, and it's worth setting expectations accordingly.

There are some rough edges that remind you this wasn't built natively for the platform. But those imperfections don't undermine what is still a quality horror experience well worth your hard-earned money. For horror fans who want something to sink into on their Switch 2 and especially those who have already torn through the launch lineup and recent gaming options on the go, Amnesia: Rebirth is a no-brainer pickup that delivers chills wherever you take it.
