Quick Switch 2 Review - Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration Rocks

Story and Gameplay

Rise of the Tomb Raider has been around long enough that many players will already know Lara Croft's name, but if this is your first encounter with her modern incarnation, congratulations, you have picked an outstanding place to start. This is an exceptionally tight and well-crafted action adventure that balances exploration, combat, and puzzle solving in a way that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

Whether you are a longtime fan of the series or a complete newcomer, Rise delivers the kind of polished, addictive experience that action and exploration junkies dream about.

Graphics and Sound

The Switch 2 has barely been on the market a year and it is already flexing with titles that have absolutely no right looking and sounding this good, and Rise of the Tomb Raider is a prime example.

This is a cinematic tour de force from beginning to end with incredibly stunning visuals, a sweeping soundtrack, and production values that rival anything on competing hardware. The fact that you can experience all of this on the go is not just a bonus, it is a genuine selling point that makes this version of the game hard to argue against. The audio portion is equally as stunning, nuff said!

Feedback and Verdict

No Tomb Raider game is flawless and Rise has a few stretches that lose a little momentum, but those are minor complaints against an otherwise outstanding package. This is a showcase title for both the action adventure genre and the Switch 2 itself, the kind of game you point to when someone asks what the hardware is capable of. If you own a Switch 2 and have even a passing interest in Tomb Raider, this one is an easy recommendation.
