Superstatic has been developing their rogue-lite deck-builder Liberte for over a year now in cooperation with Anshar Publishing. The game has been in early access since February 15th of last year and has received a decent number of positive reviews. For patient fans and curious spectators of the game, an official release has been announced for this French Revolution-based title.
The player will take the reigns as Rene, a regular citizen of Paris who is thrust into a conflict between the four main factions of the city and a mysterious interdimensional figure known as Lady Bliss. The game takes the classic form of a top-down hack-and-slash experience but with a twist. Cards can be unlocked through the game to enhance abilities, unlock skills, and personalize the playstyle for each player. Different cards allow for changes in weapon choice as well, such as swords, axes, and guns.
Rene can be played in his human form or as another character thanks to his skin-shifter ability. These characters are Master Hunter Victor, Tribal Warrior Flea, or Revolt Leader Ana, each providing a unique layer to gameplay.
A mystery of eldritch proportion has enthralled the city of Paris. These mythic events run alongside an accurate representation of the French Revolution. Fighting through a bloody war is hard enough, but adding the element of eldritch monsters should make this rogue-lite a deep and challenging experience.
Liberte will launch on May 23rd, 2023, on PC via Steam and GOG. Further information and updates will be available on the game’s official Discord and Twitter.
