Independent studio Shedworks along with publisher Raw Fury have revealed the release date for their upcoming title, Sable, an open-world exploration game with a distinct aesthetic. Coming on September 23, Sable will allow players to “embark on a deeply personal journey as the young Sable and traverse a strikingly rendered open world filled with ancient monuments, ruined architecture, and wrecked ships fallen from the cosmos.” The game is chock full of collectibles to uncover, puzzles to solve, and secrets to unlock, all set to an original soundtrack by recording artist Japanese Breakfast. There’s even a fully customizable hoverbike.
The game’s exploration mechanics, stylized look, and vast open-world have drawn comparisons to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Sable is Shedworks’ first video game, having first been revealed in 2018. The two-man development team first came together in 2014 after working in media development outside of video games, but are now focused primarily on game development.
While Sable won’t see release until later this year, players won’t have to wait long to try the game out. Starting on Tuesday, June 15, Xbox owners will gain access to an exclusive, limited-time demo, while Steam users will gain access the following day on June 16. And when the game launches in September it will be available to download via Xbox Game Pass for both console and PC subscribers on launch day. The game will also be available for purchase on those platforms as well the PlayStation 4, Epic Games Store, GOG.com, and the Humble Store.
