So after a couple months of teasing from both Blizzard and actor Terry Crews, it appears that Doomfist will not, in fact, be the next champion in Overwatch. The news comes from the Battle.net forums where game director Jeff Kaplan jumped on to address some questions to fans. Kaplan said the following when asked if he could publish a list of the champions the team is currently working on:
"24 is not who you think it is."
The statement seems to confirm that a new champion is on the way and that it will not be Doomfist. As far as some reasoning behind the move, it sounds like Kaplan and the team feels a newer champion make have a larger impact than Doomfist presently at this time. It could also mean that they haven't fully figured out how to fit the character into the current game, as each champion usually undergoes extensive testing for balance issues before being released.
So who is the new champion? No clues yet, but we'll let you know when we find out.
