Something that has been slowly gaining some attention is the appeal of making interactive movies into video games. These often come with a choice-based system that will lead the character’s through the story based on the viewers pivotal choices at specific moments in the game. Jumping in on this game type is the popular publishing studio Square Enix who has teamed up with some heavy hitters to pull off their upcoming title.
Their interactive game is called The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story and to create it they are working with developers h.a.n.d. Inc. Among the team are the likes of Metal Gear Solid V’s Koichiro Ito as Director, NieR: Automata’s Junichi Ehara as Producer, and Yasuhito Tachibana, producer of Netflix’s The Naked Director.
The Centennial Case centers around the ill-fated Shijima family, who have experienced a chain of inexplicable deaths in their family over the past century. Players will take on the role of mystery novelist, Haruka Kagami and use their powers of deductions to uncover the truth behind four murder cases that have taken place in the Shijima household over the last one hundred years. Take on this accessible mystery story, uncover the truth of the case and reveal the culprit!
The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story is set to release on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on May 12th. It is interesting to see such a big studio as Square Enix finally jumping in on this niche game genre, so I’m intrigued to see how well they manage to pull it off. What do you think of this upcoming live-action game?
