NieR has been around for ten years now, and Square Enix is celebrating by bringing the cult classic third-person action-RPG NieR Replicant to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam.
The new title will be NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... and the prequel to NieR:Automata tells the story of a brother and a sister, as one will journey to find a cure for the other’s fatal disease.
Square Enix has partnered with Toylogic for the project, and the development team includes director Yoko Taro, composer Keiichi Okabe, and producer Yosuke Saito—all of whom have worked on NieR: Automata and whose development history includes fan-favorites like Drakengard, Tekken, and Dragon Quest X.
The original Japanese release included two versions of the game—NieR Replicant and NieR Gestalt—with different narrative perspectives. But of the two, only Gestalt was released in the West, so the Replicant version was never seen by many gamers. That will change with this upcoming remake of the classic game.
So many fan-favorites from years ago are being rebuilt for modern consoles. And we can’t really complain.
