This is a very happy day for me. Am I holding onto residual excitement over the PS5 games even? Nah not really I honestly have forgotten a majority of what was shown. Is it because I finished my review on the awesome Retro-Bit Tribute 64? Well kind of… but no. What has me excited beyond any healthy reason is that a new Star Wars game has been leaked today thanks to a listing on the Microsoft Store. This game is called Star Wars: Squadrons and it features the tagline of “Pilots wanted.” HOLY FREAKING CRAP WE ARE FINALLY GETTING A NEW STAR WARS FLIGHT GAME!!!!!! Best yet, EA decided to confirm that the leak was real and announced that a reveal trailer will be coming on Monday.
Ever since the Release of Rogue Squadron 3 back on GameCube, Star Wars flight games have virtually vanished. There are still flight aspects to newer Star Wars games like the Battlefront series but none have ever matched what made Rogue Squadron and the X-wing/Tie Fighter games so great. With Squadrons, I am hoping we will finally see an amazing flight game. The revealed key art for the title is also very interesting highlighting both Rebel and Imperial ships and pilots. It would be cool to have a campaign that spans across both sides or maybe, desperately hoping, there are even 2 campaigns to play through. I am also hoping that some sort of co-op mode will be included because playing Rogue Leader in co-op is still an absolute blast! Expanded multiplayer options similar to those found in Starfighter Assault on Battlefront II would also be a huge plus.
I have seriously set my expectations and hyp for this title too high and I know there is no way it can possibly do everything I am hoping. Even still, I am hoping for the best and even if 50% of my hopes are met this will be an amazing title. Monday can’t get here soon enough!
