ConcernedApe a.k.a Eric Barone, the one-man developer for the smash hit indie-title, Stardew Valley has been busy these past few months creating updates for the beloved farming simulator.
In a tweet posted by Barone, he said that “I’m finished with the new content and have shifted all my attention to getting multiplayer ready!” He also tweeted a picture of the multiplayer mode and revealed that “4-player Stardew Valley LAN party at my house…it’s really fun,” he said. “It still needs some work, but the underlying network code is solid.”
Furthermore, he added that “being in the same room and yelling at each other about what to do next, or if anyone has any stone, is great fun. Can’t wait to share this.”
Stardew Valley’s upcoming multiplayer support is definitely an exciting feature that many fans, including myself, has been waiting for ever since the launch of the game back in 2016. I can tell from experience how laborious running a farm by yourself can be, so its definitely fun to have your friends help you run the farm, and mine items to get you that super helpful Iridium sprinklers. Based on the screenshot of the multiplayer feature by Barone (posted above), the update will include a text chat in-game to help players communicate with one another.
As for the release date of the multiplayer mode, Barone and publisher Chucklefish is still yet to give us an exact date on when this new feature will be launched. However, we can expect that this update will come to Stardew Valley’s home platform first, which is the PC, before it will be released to consoles. Barone also confirmed that they are planning to release a beta test for the new multiplayer content on the PC when they feel that the new component has reached a playable state.
Stardew Valley is available for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. The game was listed as one of GameTyrant’s Best Games of 2017 for the Nintendo Switch. If you still haven’t decided whether the game is worth your time, check out our full review of the Switch version of the game here.
