We all have a few games in our Steam libraries we don’t want to be seen playing, and be questioned about. It seems Valve has finally decided to address that by adding a highly requested feature in a future update that will allow you to mark titles as private from your Steam friends.
Creator of SteamDB, and famed Steam data miner, Pavel Djundik revealed in a tweet that Valve is testing this privacy feature for a future update. This will allow you to mark any game in your library as “Private”, which will hide it from your friends while you play it, and from your visible library. Here is their tweet below:
We can’t say for certain when Valve will add this in Steam, but based on the visual provided above, it’s probably something can expect to see soon.
Currently, Steam lets you hide games from your library, but if you play those, they’ll still show up under your name if you’re online, as well as on your profile if you haven’t hidden your entire library.
Pavel also revealed that Steam is working on more advanced parental controls that will allow setting daily playtime restrictions as well.
Personally, I think being able to mark certain games as private is a very useful feature. As someone who has to review games, I often have to take a lot of precautions to hide my status and ensure I’m not breaking any embargos, and this would certainly come in handy.
