Fans of the classic beat ‘em up genre have received some good news for the Streets of Rage series continuation title set to launch later this year. Thanks to the combined efforts of developers Dotemu, Lizardcube, and Guard Crush Games, players will be given retro and modern options while playing through Streets of Rage 4! We aren’t completely sure when the game will launch, despite the false date that was temporarily listed on the Nintendo eShop last week, but we do know it will be on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch once it does get released.
In the latest gameplay trailer, we can see a lot of the confirmed details about the game in action. These details include some awesome retro aspects to go with the new, modern ones. While you can play as any of the 5 new characters, you can also play as the retro characters from previous games, bringing the roster character total to 17 different characters! Along with that, you can choose to play as pixel art characters to really bring out the retro aspect and choose to use the soundtracks from Streets of Rage 1 and 2 for a full nostalgia trip. Of course, the new soundtrack is highly inspired by the classics, so expect some upbeat, electronic jams to go with your bad guy beat downs with any chosen track.
If you are planning on getting Streets of Rage 4 on PS4 or the Switch, the pre-order option might be the best way to go. Those who pre-order the game on either platform will get a Steelbook Case, Streets of Rage 4 Reversible Cover, and a Custom Genesis Clam Shell Case that will fit both the Steelbook Case and Standard Game Case. Personally, I think the PS4 version looks best with a clear “GENESIS” on the front cover like the old game boxes had, but either set would be pretty awesome to have!
