Fans of the classic Streets of Rage series will recall that while there were multiple characters to choose from, the multiplayer always maxed at two players. Dotemu, Lizardcube, and Guard Crush Games have decided to change this for the next installment in this series revival game Streets of Rage 4. Showing off gameplay with the strongman, Floyd Iraia, ends with a glimpse into the four-player multiplayer action.
From the latest logo screenshot, it looks like we will have five different characters to choose from as well. This amount of characters with the number of players that can play at once is a good mix so that nobody feels that they “have” to use any one character or another thanks to more options being available. Keep in mind though, the four-player multiplayer is local only and online multiplayer will still be maxed out at two-player. This seems like an unnecessary limitation for online players, but at least we are getting options to play with friends both near and far.
It’s nice to see the actual gameplay is kept to the classic style with a few touches to improve and modernize it. Mixing that with the updated graphics to make the characters and backgrounds look well fitted without the pixelization and my hype for this game is rushing back! There still is no launch date set, but we know it will be coming out on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch once it is completed.
