Nearly three decades since the first Simon the Sorcerer, developer Smallthing Studios and publisher Leonardo Interactive are set to revive the series with a new release in 2023, Simon the Sorcerer - Origins. The game will function as a prequel to the first. The series is known for helping pioneer the point-and-click adventure genre, but the latest release will bring a fresh, modern reimagining to the series and the genre. The game, which is currently in development, will serve as the sixth entry in the franchise.
The original Simon the Sorcerer was released in 1993 for MS-DOS and Amiga computers, and the longstanding franchise has many longtime fans. This new release seeks to please both the longtime fans just as much as those who are fresh to the series. The game world is crafted with a modern visual style filled with seamless real-time sequences, magic, and puzzle-solving tied together with an engrossing storyline that will help answer questions fans have had since the series began.
“We are beyond excited to finally be able to announce Simon the Sorcerer - Origins and embark on the exciting development journey with Smallthing Studios. It has been a long-time wish of ours to revive one of the gaming industry’s best-loved and iconic characters. Our goal will be to create a new world brought to life with beautiful modern visuals and all-new gameplay mechanics to tell the untold story of Simon’s origins,” stated Leonardo Caltagirone, founder of Leonardo Interactive.
Simon the Sorcerer - Origins is set to launch in early 2023 for PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
