Some Kickstarters succeed and some fail. Then there are others that burn with an intense heat and keep that fire lit the whole way. Earlier this year, Frosthaven raised more than $3 million in the first day of funding before finishing its campaign with almost $13 million from over 80,000 backers. Eighty thousand…
Maybe there’s something appealing about “Frost” and all things cold because Frostpunk: The Board Game is currently kicking butt on Kickstarter right now. In the first 24 hours, over 5000 backers raised over triple the original €200,000 funding goal.
As of this writing, it’s currently raised over €700,000 from over 6,500 backers.
That’s a whirlwind of tabletop support from the Kickstarter and boardgame communities, and the game has already unlocked several stretch goals.
If you’re curious about the game, it will stay true to the theme, the difficulty, and the complex mechanics of the original PC game on which it’s based.
It’s going to be a (wooly) mammoth of a game. What I’m excited about are the narrative implications of this survival epic. The crafted scenarios and event cards are going to ground Frostpunk: The Board Game with realism and an enriching story for players to grasp onto.
Another thing that I appreciate about what Glass Cannon Unplugged has done here is the split backer levels. If you want to play this game, you don’t have to invest a fortune and be saddled with a miniature-stuffed game if you don’t like that. For many tabletop gamers, that is precisely why they want to support this gorgeous product—along with the scintillating gameplay. But some people just want the game and don’t need all of the luxury Kickstarter components and elements that push board games to stratospheric prices.
So there is the core pledge, which will get you everything you need to jump into the game, with the wooden components and all other goodies.
And then there is the deluxe pledge, for the ones with larger pockets, bigger eyes, and a penchant for miniatures.
Pick your poison and take comfort in the fact that Frostpunk: The Board Game is fully funded and only getting better as more rewards are unlocked!
