The spirit of competition is alive and well in Destiny 2, as this year’s Guardian Games are officially underway. The friendly rivalry between the three, in-game classes reaches a fever pitch during Guardian Games, allowing players to compete with their friends to see which class is truly the best. The winning class secures bragging rights for a whole year, but there are rewards for every Guardian who participates between now and May 24th.
The free event sees players competing to earn points for their chosen class each week by playing a variety of different activities throughout the game. While just about every activity in the game gives players the chance to contribute to their class’s total point score, the real gains come from the competitive Strike playlist, where players can earn Strike Medals and strive to hit the top of the leaderboards each week.
All participating players will also have the opportunity to earn the exotic machine gun, Heir Apparent along with its catalyst, along with a new submachine gun that comes with its own, unique perk. There are also a ton of themed, cosmetic items for players to both earn and purchase from the game’s Eververse store.
Alongside the Guardian Games event, Bungie is kicking off a brand new charity tournament titled Guardian Games Cup that brings famous streamers from around the world together for a class-based competition coinciding with the Guardian Games itself. All donations for the competing teams will be donated to Direct Relief, a relief organization devoted to aiding people around the world dealing with health issues and poverty. Donations of $25 USD or more will also come with the exclusive Guardian’s Oath emblem.
The Guardian Games are live now in Destiny 2 and are free for all players on all platforms. For more on Destiny 2, check out why we think this season’s story will have long-term ramifications for the entire game.
