Cyberpunkin’ Awesome
There isn’t really a reason to introduce and rehash the hype and insanity around one of the biggest game releases in modern gaming history so, I will only say this: Cyberpunk 2077 is here and it is glorious. The deep RPG elements are awesome, the voice acting is sublime, the world is uber detailed, the photo mode is glorious and that is just after an hour or two of the intro area. Now available on most consoles and the PC version I’m playing on the excellent GOG platform, the version 1.03 patched release is so far, fantastic. Also, with GOG vs other platforms, every dime goes the CDPR group and you get Witcher-esque goodies in game and printable posters, etc from GOG. No brainer for PC version.
Without spoiling the game for anyone, there are some high level details after this sentence so if you want the experience to be 100% fresh, stop reading now. Along with the very detailed character creator, there is a choice of three backgrounds your character comes from and I chose Nomad to start out. The following screenshots and footage are from the start of that mission. Right off, the amount of polish and detail is on par for a CD Projekt Red. When actually enter the game, it’s even more impressive and the PC version has pages of graphical options to play with. It’s truly a PC gamers dream.
On our RTX 3090, the highest settings with all RTX and no DLSS brought our system to it’s knees. Luckily with DLSS, you can really crank up the details and still have a 30-60 FPS framerate depending on your preference. The choice is yours and I can’t wait to test all the different knobs and settings. RTX lighting is by far the most impressive I’ve seen in a game with smoke, mist, and fog taking center stage.
I am sure that more optimization will come for all platforms but I am pleased to say I haven’t encountered any major bugs and the game is just drop dead gorgeous so far. There is so much to explore and every little nook and cranny is highly detailed. It would be a shame for anyone to rush through this work of technical art. We’ll be sinking our teeth into both the PS4 and PC version of Cyberpunk so look for more info, details, and technical tweaks to come! Below is just a tiny snippet of the Nomad intro area and while it’s different from most footage of Night City you’ve seen, it definitely looks and feels so Mad Max-esque and that is a massive compliment…
