A press release that was published last night revealed that THQ Nordic via its subsidiary Koch Media GmbH, has acquired the rights to the entire TimeSplitters trilogy, which is comprised of the original TimeSplitters, TimeSplitters 2, and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect.
The series was top-rated back in the PS2/Xbox/GameCube era, thanks to its fun arcade-style shooter experience.
“Timesplitters was largely considered as one of the most influential console games of the early 2000’s The three game series earned a large and passionate fan base thanks to its unique humor, art style and pop culture references while encouraging customization and modification to give each person their own individual experience,” THQ Nordic said in the press release.
Besides the TimeSplitters series, the publisher has also purchased the rights to the sci-fi action-adventure game, Second Sight. Earlier this year, THQ also acquired the rights to franchises such as Metro, Dead Island, and Saints Row as part of a deal after purchasing Koch Media.
“Koch Media has a long history of profitability despite losses incurred from some less successful game releases,” Lars Wingefors, CEO of THQ Nordic said at the time.
As of now, the biggest question here is what THQ Nordic plans to do with the TimeSplitters franchise. Would they remaster any of the older games? Or is it time for TimeSplitters 4? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
