A new mod for CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3 surfaced online, which may have been inspired by the recent controversy surrounding the casting of the character of Ciri for Netflix’s upcoming The Witcher series. The mod gives the player the ability to alter Ciri’s appearance, most specifically, the color of her skin.
Last week, the showrunner of Netflix’s upcoming adaptation, Lauren Hissrich, was bombarded with a tremendous backlash from fans after rumors started spreading that the streaming giant is looking to cast a woman of color for the role of Ciri. Long-time fans of the novel and video-game franchises voiced their concerns over the apparent casting direction, accusing Netflix of not sticking with the source material.
The backlash then prompted Hissrich to take a brief hiatus from social media saying that, “The love here is amazing, and the hate is enlightening, like a real-life Trial of the Grasses, except I HAVE to read less and write more—or we won’t have a damn finale.”
A few weeks ago, it was revealed that Henry Cavill would be playing the role of Geralt of Rivia, in the upcoming series that will contain eight episodes for the first season, filmed in Eastern Europe, and will probably release sometime in 2020.
