Sword of the Sea Reveals August 19 Launch Date in New Trailer
From Giant Squid and the visionary artist behind ABZÛ, The Pathless, and Journey – Sword of the Sea is launching soon on PS5 and PC, and available day one on PlayStation Plus.
LOS ANGELES, California – June 4, 2025 – Giant Squid is pleased to announce that Sword of the Sea is launching on August 19, 2025. The release date was revealed during today’s PlayStation State of Play, which also debuted a brand new trailer for the single-player atmospheric surfing adventure game.

In Sword of the Sea, you are on a quest to unveil the ancient sea buried beneath the land. As you carve your way forward on the ancient and powerful Hoversword, which moves like a snowboard, skateboard, and surfboard all in one - you will discover the remnants of a lost culture hidden in skatepark-like ruins, and transform sandy dunes into glittering, emerald waters teeming with life.
One part meditative and one part exhilarating, you will feel the spiritual magic of surfing as you connect with nature and restore life to the land all while pulling off radical flips, spins, and grab tricks with ease.
Developed by the renowned indie team Giant Squid, Sword of the Sea features the unique artistic design of creative director Matt Nava and beautiful music composed by Austin Wintory. Long time creative partners, their works together include beloved indie games ABZÛ, The Pathless, and the legendary, award-winning game Journey.
Sword of the Sea will release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Steam, and the Epic Games Store on August 19, 2025, and is available to wishlist now. The game will be available at launch on PlayStation Plus.
