Last January, FoodBeast and Cup Noodle teamed up to sponsor 2GGC: Genesis Saga, a major Smash 4 tournament held in Santa Ana, California’s eSports Arena. While tournament champion Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios walked away with nearly $3,500 in prize money, he also left the event with several crates of the college-student staple: Instant noodles.
On January 27th, Smashers will get another shot at this breathtaking prize—and this time, Melee players will have an opportunity to win quite a lot of money as well. FoodBeast and Cup Noodle have once again joined forces to sponsor eSports Arena’s "Noods Noods Noods", a tournament featuring copious amounts of noodles and a hefty $5,000 Melee pot bonus (alongside a $1,000 pot bonus for the event’s Smash 4 tournament).
If you’re a mid-level player who enjoys instant noodles, this might be your chance to strike gold. Though its attendee list boasts top-level names such as Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma and Hugo “HugS” Gonzalez, the Melee bracket currently contains only 41 players, a strikingly low amount for a tournament with such a generous prize pool. It’s possible that players are simply burnt out after a hectic GENESIS 5 weekend, or perhaps this tournament has simply missed its chance for the spotlight amid the hubbub surrounding Northern California’s premier major.
Regardless, registration ends on Thursday, and the event looks like it’s going to be a good one—so sign up now or forever hold your noodles!
