Ubisoft doesn’t have the best luck with leaks, and it’s a bit ironic when they accidentally released an earlier build of an upcoming project themselves. Yes, Beyond Good & Evil, the classic Ubisoft action-adventure title is coming back next year with a 20th Anniversary Edition. Ubisoft didn’t initially announce this mind you, and a lot of players got an early taste of the upcoming release.
Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition
While Ubisoft has now officially announced the existence of this new edition, many players were able to play an early build of the anniversary edition through Ubiosft+. Initially, the achievements for the Xbox release went up on Exophase, followed by a listing on the Microsoft Store page (now deleted) as well.
It didn’t take long for comparison screenshots to start showing up, because as far as the players were concerned, this was the final release. These comparisons drew a lot of heat and did not paint the upcoming version in a positive light.
Thankfully, Ubisoft was quick to confirm that the build released on Ubisoft+ is an early development build, and does not represent the final release.
The upcoming release will have improved visuals, audio, controls, cross saves, achievements, and tons of extra features bringing it up to modern standards. It also supports 4K 60 FPS according to the now deleted listing.
I’m cautiously optimistic about this edition because not all remasters/remakes capture the aesthetics of the original faithfully. This accidental release didn’t do it any favors, but Ubisoft has a chance to make it right with a proper reveal showcasing gameplay footage from a newer build. Oh, and maybe after the remaster, we’ll get an update on the sequel. Please?
