UPDATED: The Twitter account for CS:GO has responded to the news of the source code leak, reassuring players about the safety of playing the FPS, especially on official servers.

We have reviewed the leaked code and believe it to be a reposting of a limited CS:GO engine code depot released to partners in late 2017, and originally leaked in 2018. From this review, we have not found any reason for players to be alarmed or avoid the current builds.

Valve has yet to comment on the events transpiring, but the source code for Team Fortress 2 and CS:GO has leaked online, and there is the possibility that you could get malware through Remote Code Execution if you’re playing multiplayer online.

Steam Database shared the news about the leak.

And Heavy Update Out Yet notified players about the malware threat through the servers.

Do not launch TF2 under any circumstances, Remote Code Execution exploits have already been found which means you can receive a virus from simply joining a server with a cheater. This is not a drill.

Again, there is no official word on what’s happening, but to be safe, it’s advisable to avoid playing these two Valve games, and maybe any Valve games, online until an announcement has been made or an explanation of events.
