Sony has released a statement saying that they will once again be skipping out on this years E3 Conference in June. The Company first broke their yearly appearances at the show, after 25 years, last year where they said: “As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community.” There has been mass speculation about why Sony had decided to skip E3 that first time around ranging from they didn’t want to spend the money to they had nothing new to announce, as the PS5 was still tightly under wraps. With more info about the PS5 finally becoming revealed, it is odd that Sony would once again skip one of gamings major events to promote the upcoming console. Instead, Sony plans to focus on its own smaller events and consumer shows to promote.
“After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020. We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year. We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.”
Whether this plan works out like they hope it will is going to be an interesting topic of discussion down the line. As for me, I am bummed Sony is once again walking away from E3. The show may not be what it was before, but year after year it is an exciting time to watch and see all the industry has to show!
What do you all think of Sony’s decision to once again bail on E3?
