So I’m here to ask the question that has plagued philosophers for ages; why are gamers so obsessed with RGB lighting? Anywhere you look online, any piece of gaming gear from mice to keyboards to headsets to computers to displays, every single one is covered in RGB variable lighting with a default rainbow strobe setting. I absolutely hate it, just soo much!
It is such a pain in the ass, anytime you want to look for some good to premium quality gaming gear of any kind, it always comes with some tacked-on RGB lighting feature. So when you get it you have to first download the added software that lets you change the lighting setting, and most of the time that software is either impossible or just a pain to use. And then when you finally manage to turn off the lights it doesn’t even look good since it's been designed to have the lights on! That's not even counting the products where you can’t even turn off the lights at all.
Aside from my issues with bad product design, let's get to the main reason I hate all the RGB gamer gear lighting. It's simply a pain in the ass. For one it's incredibly distracting and gets in the way when you’re doing literally anything other than gaming, and sometimes even when you’re gaming. The light glowing from keyboards and mice can also affect your screen so if you enjoy using the lighting, you then have to turn it off if you want to watch videos or work. Also for my money, it just looks stupid, cheesy, childish, and excessively flashy. Having the full RGB gamer setup in a dark room for maximum effect doesn’t scream “cool” to me, it screams “I make ‘gamer’ my singular personality trait.”
Is it too much much to ask for companies to make quality gaming gear products that don’t include excessive cheesy RGB lighting or am I just screaming into the void here?
