WOLCEN: LORDS OF MAYHEM is Stunningly Beautiful
Hack and Drool
With most hack and slash/ARPG/Action oriented games, the scenery around you tends to be nothing more than that. A moment in time, something fleeting, and while there are plenty of gorgeous games out there, nothing has caught my eye more lately both technically and artistically as much as WOLCEN: LORDS OF MAYHEM that recently launched out of early access on Steam.
Stinking swamps, dusty caves, and blood soaked forests are just a taste of the insane amount of detail and variety rendered in the little used but undeniably stunning Cryengine. While there have been quite a bit of issues with the online play of the game, the offline option has worked near perfect with little to no issues. Luckily in this case, the solid graphics are matched with the right gameplay to back it up. This is definitely a Diablo/ARPG fan’s dream come true and we can’t wait to see where the game goes from here.
Acts I-III are live now and word on the street is, Act IV is already in the works. Don’t be fooled as these acts are massive and are chock full of baddies, loads of loot, and a surprisingly solid story for a small dev studio out of Nice, France. If you are at all interested in the genre, WOLCEN is a stunning beautiful addition to the ARPG/lootfest genre.
