In a surprise twist at today’s PlayStation Showcase Sony revealed that their lauded Marvel’s Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games will be tackling a game starring Marvel’s most famous mutant, Wolverine. The Showcase only had a brief teaser for the game, but what was shown offers some hints at the tone of the final product.
The trailer shows a bar that has just been through a rather violent fight with bodies strewn about, tables flipped over, and general damage to the entire scene. The camera pans around to focus on a lone man sitting at the bar in a cowboy hat.
We then see him from the front, his knuckles bruised and bloody. As a figure rises up behind him, seemingly intent on keeping the fight going, the man at the bar clenches his fist and the telltale claws pop out from between his knuckles. It ends with the simple title of Marvel’s Wolverine, following in the footsteps of Insomniac’s other Marvel release.
Insomniac has been firing on all cylinders of late, releasing both Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart in the past year alone alongside a current-gen remaster of their original Spider-Man game.
Marvel’s Wolverine wasn’t the only game Insomniac showed off during the Showcase; Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is also in the works and appears to be a sequel to both the original title and Miles Morales and will feature a fan-favorite villain as well.
