Asmodee Digital has released A Game of Thrones: The Board Game - Digital Edition on Steam for PC and Mac. The digital adaptation of the popular tabletop game was developed by Dire Wolf Digital, who worked on the great digital app for Raiders of the North Sea.
As you can see in the launch trailer, the board game has been faithfully adapted, with all of the strategy, political backstabbing, and military coordination that are required to win the Iron Throne. This is definitely one of the board games for which I’ve been anxiously awaiting a digital adaptation. It’s a fun game, but it’s somewhat inaccessible to new gamers and it’s sometime unwieldy. Also, the duration of a typical game is long.
So it’s hard to get to the table. But… that can change with a digital version of the game. And to celebrate the arrival of this strategy game to Steam and to the growing collection of Asmodee Digital’s library, the game is being offered at a 20% discount for $15.99 until October 13th. That means you’ve got a week to get it at a great price right from the release date.
If you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last decade, this game is an adaptation of the board game which is an adaptation of the fantasy series, which got widespread acclaim outside of fantasy-loving readers when the television show arrived on HBO.
Here’s how to play:
In the span of 10 rounds, players must combine warfare, diplomacy, and deception to control strategic areas on the map. Each round in the game is made up of three phases: the Westeros Phase, the Planning Phase, and the Action Phase. The Westeros Phase represents special events and day-to-day activities in Westeros, potentially impacting all Houses. The Planning Phase sees players assigning orders to their armies while diplomatic interactions forge, or betray, alliances. During the Action Phase orders are resolved, players being able to use well-known characters from their House, and their specific abilities, to gain the upper hand and vanquish their enemies. Finally, all Houses can allocate their Influence on three different Tracks that determine the turn order (Iron Throne Track), victories during ties, and ownership of the Valyrian Steel ability in combat (Fiefdoms Track) and the number of Special Orders available (The King’s Court Track).
The digital edition of the game accommodates a player count up to six, with both casual and competitive play. A single player can even start a game against entirely AI opponents.
If you are ready to play, then you can buy the game on Steam for PC and Mac, and you can check out Asmodee Digital for all of the beloved tabletop games that are available in digital format.
