Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla will see its next big story expansion drop sometime later this summer. Announced at the Ubisoft Forward press conference as part of E3, the Siege of Paris expansion will follow Eivor as they make their way to Frankia to take part in one of the largest and most pivotal battles in Viking history. While the story for the expansion was only briefly touched on, other additions coming with the DLC were outlined including new abilities for Eivor to use in combat along with new gear sets and weapons.
As with the Wrath of the Druids DLC, the Siege of Paris will also feature new enemy types with entirely new battle tactics. It was also announced that Black Box missions will be returning in the Siege of Paris. These missions, first introduced in Assassin’s Creed: Unity, allow the player to reach their objective in a number of different ways. If you want to stealth through the area to reach the goal that option is just as available as charging in through the front door with your weapons drawn. Black Box missions haven’t been seen since Unity, possibly owing to that game’s rocky reception at launch, but they were one of Unity’s most praised features and it’s exciting to see them return for Valhalla.
The Valhalla section of the conference closed with the reveal that, for the first time in Assassin’s Creed history, Ubisoft will be supporting the game for a second year. Valhalla will continue to receive seasonal events and free updates while a new slate of paid expansions is planned for next year. Karen Lee, Senior Community Developer at Ubisoft Montreal, teased one of these expansions with the words “Something tells me that Eivor is not done with Odin yet,” followed by a brief teaser that hints at a return to Asgard and possibly beyond.
