After 11 years Kingdom Under Fire 2 is now finally available to play! Originally announced in 2008, Kingdom Under Fire 2 went through a series of delays and platform transitions from PS3/360 to PS4 and finally PC. The game did release in a beta state back in 2013 in eastern countries but was eventually shut down. But earlier this year Gameforge announced that they had partnered with Blueside to finally get the game finished and released in western countries for the first time!
Kingdom Under Fire 2 is set 50 years after the events of the original Xbox game Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders. Players will join one of three factions to battle for the fate of Berseria, the Human Alliance, Dark Legion, or Encablossians. Multiple classes will be available for customization so you can make the game your own. The game combines the series signature RTS and hack n slash combat with new MMORPG elements.
After creating my Ranger and hopping into the tutorial I wasn’t sure what to expect. Immediately I was greeted with a cutscene giving an overview of the world I now found myself in. After the video, I was thrown right into the fight and got to get acquainted with my hero’s combat abilities. As expected there were normal and special attacks to employ. As a Ranger, I could also swap to long-range fighting at any point. Blocking and dodging are also available to keep your HP high. Combat has felt great so far and is simple enough to get a hold of.
I have only played about 45 minutes so far and the game is more MMORPG than RTS at this point. Well, so far it has all been MMO. I have killed a bunch of spiders and kobold to help lead refuges to a new village. unfortunately, the village is under attack so that didn’t really work out for them. hopefully I won’t have to progress much further to start unlocking my commandable units as the RTS aspect of Kingdom Under Fire has always been my favorite to mess around with!
I am pleased that the game has drawn me into its world as I usually have trouble with MMO style games. I enjoy the realtime combat and hopefully, soon I will see the RTS aspects come into play. But, I am liking it so far and am enjoying my return to Bersia after 11 years! Check out Kingdom Under Fire 2 for yourself on its official webpage.
