Jumping blind into Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game may be difficult for some gamers who don’t check out the in-game tutorials or don’t often play fighting games. This game has a pretty important combat system called Flow and Chakra, both working interchangeably to help you win a fight. We’ll help you figure out how the Flow and Chakra systems work in Avatar Legends.
What is Flow (Chi) in Avatar Legends?
In Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, you have a Chi gauge below your health, which is used when you enter the Flow Stance. As you stay in the Flow Stance, your Chi slowly drains. Being in the Flow Stance not only lets you automatically guard against oncoming attacks, but offers unique Flow Techniques for each character you’re playing.
Flow Techniques can give you varying movement options, but they can also damage enemies. They can also help you avoid high or low attacks, so it’s important to memorize each Flow Technique for a character.
The downside to using the Flow Stance can be critical if not used properly. Staying in the Flow Stance leaves you open to Critical Throws. Not only that, but if you empty your Chi gauge, your character becomes Unbalanced.
During the Unbalanced state, you are unable to perform any Flow actions or reenter the Flow Stance until you become Recentered. Your Chi gauge will slowly recover, but during that time, you are vulnerable to all types of critical attacks. All normal hits become Counter Hits against anyone who is Unbalanced, knockdowns become Hard Knockdowns, and so on.
The trick here is to use Flow Techniques often enough during a match, but not so much that you empty your Chi gauge. Every character has a variety of different Flow Techniques, so make sure to learn them before playing a new character.
How does Chakra work?
Chakras are the five dots below the Chi gauge, and they work alongside it. You can gain Chakra by using special techniques on your opponent. You’ll notice once you perform one successfully, one slot on your Chakra gauge lights up.
Here are all the ways you can add Chakra:
Hitting the opponent with special techniques
Holding the Flow Stance
Landing follow-up attacks from Flow moves
Opening up the opponent
Incorrect blocks from the opponent
Throwing your opponent
Aside from these methods, you can fill up your Chakra by using your character’s unique Critical Hit conditions. Some of these Critical Hits allow for combos that can add multiple Chakras at once.
These points don’t stick around forever. If your character performs an EX move, you will use up one Chakra point. Some EX moves can even use up two points.
Every character starts a round with five Chakra points each. But if you lose a round, you are given two additional max Chakra points during the next match. This allows for the loser to have a bit of an advantage in the follow-up round.
The most important use of Chakra points is Chakra Arts and True Chakra Arts, which are special moves that cost multiple points. While Chakra Arts cost four points, True Chakra Arts cost a total of seven points. Essentially, even if you lose one round, you get the chance to perform a True Chakra Art, which can immediately eliminate your opponent.
