Half Pint or Full?
When I first heard about Battle Chasers: Nightwar and the term 'JRPG' was associated, I immediately lost interest. Let me explain: Back in the day, I absolutely loved JRPGS, anime; anything Japanese. As the years have passed I've gotten old, grumpy, and completely disenchanted with the spiky hair, over-the-top voices, and nonsense of the genre and style. That being said, I longed for the old school JRPG style of gaming but without all that said nonsense. Enter, Battle Chasers: Nightwar to save the friggin' day! It's definitely a full pint of all the goodness I love about JRPGs...
Not only does the game have an absolutely stunning art style and execution, the music is enchanting, the voice acting is solid but most of all, it plays EXACTLY like an old school RPG but with modern tech. I have been absolutely blown away with the quality of the exploration, the dungeon crawling, and most of all, arranging and organizing skills, gear, hitpoints, magic points and combat inside the game. It features all the goodness of the JPRG genre without the annoying Tidus-like characters.
In an extremely busy gaming season, it's easy for games like this to fly under the radar. So, if you love JRPGs but are tired of the annoying tropes, Battle Chasers is definitely worth your gaming dollar. It's available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Mac, and soon to be Switch. Check out the trailer at the top for more footage of this little gem.
