Bungie kicked off Bungie Day 2021 in style by announcing August 24th as the date for this year’s Destiny 2 showcase. The reveal came by way of an image on the @DestinyTheGame Twitter account. The image bears the tagline “Survive The Truth” along the top while the middle is taken up by a cryptic symbol cast in a sickly green light. Fans of the game will recognize this symbol as the crest of one of the game’s most heinous and mysterious villains, Savathûn.
The showcase will likely focus on the Witch Queen, the next major expansion for Destiny 2. The date of the showcase coincides with the end of the current in-game season, a precedent Bungie set with last year’s showcase. Details for the next season will most likely also come during the event, though nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
The Witch Queen expansion was originally announced last year for release sometime in 2021. Earlier this year, however, Bungie announced that the Witch Queen would be delayed to early next year, citing the COVID pandemic as one of the key reasons for this change.
No details were given on how or when to watch the event other than the August 24th date, though it’s safe to assume that the showcase will be broadcast via Bungie’s social channels. Until then, players have roughly a little over a month to complete the current season’s content before the showcase and new season arrive.
