Released on May 16, 2022, Final Fantasy XI Online was the series’ first foray into the massively-multiplayer online territory. Square Enix is celebrating by adding more to the May update that the game received earlier this month. The update includes the first part of the game’s eighth chapter, The Voracious Resurgence, which includes updates to Ambuscade such as the return of Pteraketos and Mamool Ja, as well as a campaign for daily logins. With the daily logins, players can earn points to exchange for prizes, including a Noble Chocobo mount.
Along with the gameplay update, composer Naoshi Mizuta has recorded a fresh take on the song “Vana’diel March,” called “We Are Vana’diel.” To quote the game’s producer, Akihiki Matsui, “It’s an uplifting melody that stirs your sense of adventure! It’ll play when you’re in the start menu, so be sure to give it a listen!” Square Enix has opened a digital art gallery to celebrate the past two decades, featuring artwork from the fan community, ranging from works inspired by key characters and the game’s defining moments.
Continuing the celebration of Final Fantasy XI Online, players can enjoy a new behind-the-scenes look into the game via the We Are Vana’diel website, which explores the world of Final Fantasy XI Online, its development, and history throughout the years. The website currently features an interview with Final Fantasy XIV Online’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, focusing on how he came to Square Enix and his perspective as Final Fantasy XI Online’s division lead. The game’s Producer Matsui and Director Yoji Fujito will be hosting a Reddit AMA on May 23rd from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. PDT to celebrate the game’s anniversary.
You can join the citizens of Vana’diel today on PC via the Square Enix store, where the entire game is on sale through May 31, 2022, at 1 a.m. PDT!
