CONTROL Resonant on NVIDIA: Power Unleashed

Remedy Entertainment and NVIDIA make for an odd pairing on paper and a perfect one in practice. Remedy builds games about places that shouldn't exist, hallways that rearrange themselves when you look away, architecture can be horror. NVIDIA builds the technology that makes light behave like light. Put those two together and you get CONTROL Resonant, which is a match made in a very strange sort of Heaven, or in this case a very strange sort of urban Hell. The Oldest House has never been an inviting place. Now it's an inviting place to look at while it makes you deeply uncomfortable.

The folks or should I say wizards, at Remedy have always been at the top of their game and on top of graphical prowess in the gaming industry. The latest Remedy tech paired with the latest NVIDIA tech? Chef’s kiss.

The tech list is substantial. Path Tracing is in at launch alongside DLSS 4.5, and the combination does what you'd hope: Path Tracing lifts image quality and environmental detail across the board, DLSS Ray Reconstruction cleans up the path-traced image, and DLSS Frame Generation, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, and Super Resolution handle the performance side while DLAA sharpens things further. On paper that's a lot of acronyms. In motion it means concrete that actually looks like concrete, light that pools and bleeds through doorways the way it should, and a building that feels genuinely wrong in the specific way Remedy has always been chasing.

What impressed me most, though, wasn't just playing on the RTX 5090. Of course the 5090 handles it like a champ. The real story is how smoothly this runs on an RTX 5070, as path tracing has historically been the kind of feature you turn on to take screenshots and then turn off to actually play. That isn't the case here.

We truly live in an incredible age of gaming when both cards delivered something that felt responsive rather than merely watchable, which is the difference between a tech demo and a game. Strange, stunning, and playable at the same time. That's harder to pull off than it sounds. NVIDIA continues to provide the best devs with the tools to create worlds but beautiful, odd, and everything in between. CONTROL Resonant is one insanely unique blockbuster, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
