The year is 1819, and a sinister darkness has descended upon the city of Paris. A mysterious benefactor, one with off-putting coloration and an array of ghastly scars, has created a competition to determine which studious soul can unlock the secrets of Frankenstein’s research.
Spooky, right? That’s how Plaid Hat Games has introduced its next board game, which is releasing this month. Based on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the events of the game take place after the infamous story of the relentless scientist and his creation. Now, unbeknownst to the people of Paris, Frankenstein’s monster has masterminded a competition as he seeks a companion in this lonely world. It will be up to the players in Abomination: The Heir of Frankenstein to achieve that goal. They act as scientists who are racing against each other and against time to discover the secrets to immortality.
A worker placement adventure with narrative intrusions, this will be an experience you won’t want to miss (or to fail, from the looks of the abomination). Dan Blanchett has infused the game with a haunting theme that captures the gothic spectacle of the novel, and it looks like Plaid Hat Games might have another hit on their hands.
Abomination: The Heir of Frankenstein is available for pre-order right now.
