I'm a huge fan of Mortal Kombat and I recently discovered Critical Role, a YouTube channel focused on tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs). When I heard that they did a one-shot campaign based on Mortal Kombat, I got really excited! Critical Role's content revolves around Dungeons & Dragons and similar games.
The video of the campaign is almost four hours long, so I haven't finished watching it yet. I've been listening to it bit by bit while playing Mortal Kombat 1. So far, it's been a really enjoyable experience! It would actually be cool to have an official Mortal Kombat TTRPG.
In the campaign, the Critical Role crew puts their own spin on the Mortal Kombat characters and locations, but Sam Riegel's portrayal of Johnny Cage is spot on. It's fun to see Kitana dealing with parental issues and Raiden being even more cocky than usual. The world building and combat are chaotic, but that's what makes Mortal Kombat so unique. Whether you're on a road trip or looking for new TTRPG content, I highly recommend giving it a listen. It's entertaining and offers a refreshing twist on the Mortal Kombat universe.
