The newest iteration of DLC for Crusader Kings III (CK3) from renowned grand strategy developer Paradox Interactive will be arriving soon. Paradox DLC has always been incredibly hit or miss, but so far with CK3, the DLC like Tours and Tournaments has met with good reviews, so here’s hoping the upcoming DLC event pack Wards & Wardens will be just as successful.
So, what can we expect from Wards & Wardens? Well as you can tell from the title the upcoming DLC is all about changing how players rear and educate children and wards within their court. One of the standout additions is the focus on education, allowing players to shape the abilities and personalities of the young courtiers. New interactive education events will allow players to impart both formal knowledge and valuable life lessons to their wards, ensuring the next generation is well-prepared for their crucial roles. Moreover, even after their initial tutelage ends, adult characters now have the opportunity to continue their education by attending university.
With Wards & Wardens, the influence of others on royal and noble children is magnified. Every decision made by counselors, knights, and even Wet Nurses, an interesting new position, can greatly impact the development of young heirs. Child rulers, in particular, must navigate the treacherous waters of influence and persuasion, guarding against unscrupulous regents who may undermine their authority.
Additionally, the concept of hostages introduces an intriguing element of strategy to the game. Noble children can be sent to foreign courts as guarantees of loyalty or peace, thereby weakening the resistance of hostile realms.
Crusader Kings III is available now on PC via Steam and the new DLC Wards & Wardens will be available on August 22, 2023.
