Publisher Playtonic Friends and developer Fabraz’s newest title, Demon Turf is a trippy-looking platformer that feels familiar. You play as Beebz, a 1000-year-old demon to reclaim the lost “turfs” of the Demon world. After watching the trailer, I instantly felt like I was playing those Fairly Odd Parents games from the PS2 era. They were great and I’m extremely glad that another game is giving me those same feelings again. My favorite aspect of this game is that while Beebz is modeled in 2D, the majority of the game is modeled in a 3D art style.
Another one of the game’s coolest aspects is the fact that the dev team has put a lot of focus into replayability and evolving challenge through its Demon Turf Trials and several other features such as:
Self-placed checkpoints - Show off without them for a perfect run, or place one in preparation for a challenging section. You can even teleport between these checkpoints if you missed a collectible along the way!
Return Levels - A brand new take on progression, take a victory lap and explore previously beaten levels to discover their liberated state, with plenty of mechanical and environmental changes to uncover
Physics-driven combat - How do you defeat the demon hordes when none of your own attacks are actually lethal? A special physics-driven combat system that ramps up the chaos and fun. Push, pull and spin your enemies out of your way and down cliffs or into spikes.
Mouth-Watering side content - 50 specific locations/characters to line the walls of an empty gallery. Fend off 25 arena challenges worth of enemy waves. Tackle 10 Demon Soccer Golf courses that put a bizarre twist on ball-pushing puzzles. Collect 8 cartridges to unlock remixed throwback levels from glorious 3D platformers of the past
Players can actually start playing Demon Turf Trials now as a demo for the actual game. There are even 2 complete main levels of the full game included. The trials are updated weekly with a new challenge for players to take on in the pursuit to reach the top of the leaderboards. If you make it to the top of the leaderboards, you’ll be immortalized in the game via a portrait plus a winner’s only limited edition T-shirt!
Demon Turf will launch this summer on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Also, the Demon Turf Trials challenge updates every Thursday, so don’t forget to check it out!
