The last developer diary for the upcoming turn-based strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate- Daemonhunters from Frontier Foundry is out now! “The Emperor’s Hammer” examines some more of the gameplay features of Complex Games’ newest title and introduces the crew of the Baleful Edict, the player’s strike cruiser/mobile base of operations.
The video shows off new details regarding the different sections of the ship and the crewmates that players can find there. The dev diary also rounds up some of the other gameplay mechanics like classes, combat, and abilities to close out the final entry in their three-part developer diary series. The diary also gives an idea of how this new adventure begins: the player character is promoted to captain before an inquisitor commandeers their ship to fight Chaos and fulfill her ambitions.
The Strategium, where veteran purifier Ectar helps players manage their battle against the Bloom and its corruption throughout this sector of space, also connects to the barracks. Here, players can manage all of their Grey Knights, abilities, and weaponry. They’ll also have access to the armory, which is where players can check out some of the equipment given to them by Grandmaster Vardan Kai.
The diary continues to examine the other members of the crew and what their positions are in the ship, but some of the biggest highlights are about the turn-based combat and the explanation about each of the four, starting Knight classes. All of the Grey Knights are expert warriors who are skilled in both ranged and melee combat. They can utilize their skills to target specific body parts in aggressive melee combat, allowing players to cut off arms, break armor, destroy weapons, or stun enemies to open them up for brutal, cinematic executions.
These animated kills reward every Grey Knight in the squad with an extra action point, allowing them to continue their devastation of the forces of Chaos and seize control of any battle. At range, players can actively see how much damage they’ll do to an enemy before committing to an attack, encouraging commanders to prepare their turns with as much precision as possible.
In addition to the combat examination, the video provides an in-depth look at upgrades for the squad, the ship, and single-shot psychic abilities unique to the Grey Knights called Strategems. Each of these Strategems is powerful enough to turn the tide of combat, and it will be up to the player to research and utilize them correctly. Along with these extreme powers, each class of Grey Knight has access to over 30 possible abilities that encourage unit specialization. The squad is also fully customizable, with multiple options for equipment, weapons, and even voices.
The developer diary covers a lot and features a ton of great gameplay, so go ahead and check out the video attached below to see it all! Which class are you most excited to try out first?
