With just two weeks to go until its April 14th Kickstarter launch, Dice Throne Digital is finally showing off more of what players can expect, and I have to say, it’s looking pretty promising. The digital adaptation of the beloved tabletop battler is launching with both a faithful Classic mode and a brand-new Campaign mode, which already looks like it could be the thing that really helps this project stand out.
Classic mode seems to be exactly what fans would want from a digital version of Dice Throne. It brings the game’s signature one-on-one dice battles online and lets players throw down across Android, iOS, Steam, and Meta Quest. For anyone who already loves the tabletop version, that alone is a pretty easy sell.
But the bigger reveal here is definitely the new Campaign mode. This mode takes inspiration from Dice Throne Adventures while also very clearly pulling from Slay the Spire, and honestly, I’m into it. You can see that influence in the branching paths, the run-based structure, the upgrades, and the growing challenge as you work your way toward a final showdown with the Mad King. It looks like a fun fit for Dice Throne’s combat system, and I’m glad the team decided to include a digital-exclusive game mode instead of just stopping at a straight board game conversion.
There’s still a little time left before the Kickstarter goes live, but based on this reveal, Dice Throne Digital is shaping up to be a lot more interesting than just a simple adaptation. If the Campaign mode delivers on what it’s teasing, this could end up being a really fun way to experience Dice Throne.
