As one of the most anticipated games of 2021, EA and DICE are happy to announce that early access for Battlefield 2042 is now live! This means that players who purchased the game’s Gold or Ultimate Edition, as well as EA Play Pro subscribers will be able to play starting today. Also, the Play First Trial for EA Play, Xbox Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will grant subscribers access for up to 10 hours.
This early access gives players a full week to dive into the features of this compelling multiplayer as it offers the means to cater to all types of players through three distinct experiences - All-Out Warfare, Hazard Zone, and Battlefield Portal. This game pushes the capabilities of new hardware as the true next-generation technology with up to 128 player matches on the latest consoles and PC through the use of the latest Frostbite game engine.
However, on the downside of that, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 users are capped at 64 players and have reduced map sizes. This means they will not be able to team up or cross-play with players on PC, Xbox Series, or PlayStation 5. At least for now - they may provide options and settings that can be adjusted to allow this cross-connection in the future.
All that said, welcome to the next generation of first-person shooters! Battlefield 2042 is available for pre-order in the Standard, Gold, and Ultimate editions on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Users who purchase the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series will be granted Dual Entitlement to play on previous-gen consoles as well. If you don’t have a version of the game that allows you into this early access, be prepared for the game’s official release next week on November 19th.
