Ed Sheeran Releases Official Pokémon Single

E+P = C, as it were Ed Sheeran + Pokémon = Celestial. For those not in the know, Ed Sheeran just dropped a new single on YouTube that's inspired by his love for Pokémon. The Pokémon Company International and Warner Music Group released the song on the 29th and it already has 2.5 million views within a day of its release.

The video is inspired by Sheeran’s childhood love of the franchise and his continued play of Pokémon Yellow or Pokémon Silver whenever on planes or buses. Sheeran still has the same Game Boy Color he did as a young boy and continues to enjoy playing on it. The music video includes Sheeran interacting with animated drawings of his various favorite Pokémon like Pikachu, Squirtle, Machamp, Snorlax, and more. The song is the classic pop ballad that's so prominent in Sheeran’s works, as he sings out his love and devotion to these ‘celestial’ beings.

In addition to being an amazing collaboration and a testament to how long Pokémon has lasted from Sheeran’s childhood to now, the song Celestials will feature in the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The biggest question for me is how will the song appear in the game, will it play from a radio station or will it just be background music? Either way, it is a beautiful song.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be available on Nintendo Switch on November 18th, 2022.
