Sega released a new trailer for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds detailing different competitions fans will partake in. This time, Espio the Chameleon, the ninja investigator of the Chaotix Detective Agency — or Team Chaotix, if you’re a Sonic Heroes fan like me — has been added to the racers’ roster.
The trailer, along with a press release sent out by Sega (via Sonic Stadium), gives an overview of various multiplayer racing modes Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has to offer, including Grand Prix, World Match, and Race Park, just to name a few. Grand Prix will allow for split-screen co-op for up to four players if they come together locally, World Match lets you move up the ranks against 11 other players online, and Race Park is a party mode similar to that of in Mario Kart World that allows you to change up the rules and teams in six unique racing formats online and offline.
As for the taunts Sonic, Shadow, Jet and Espio give each other at the start of every race and throughout? All that banter is thanks to the new Rival System, where you’ll be assigned a random rival that will deliver unique dialogue to spice up the challenge for the entirety of the Grand Prix. You’re in for a treat if you get Espio as your rival, because he’ll deliver some words of encouragement and ninja-style barking orders. Other than that, he was absent in previous Sonic racing game, including Team Sonic Racing.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds releases September 25, 2025.
