Bungie’s long-running space shooter is reaching another yearly milestone, which means it’s time for a massive new expansion to build on the game’s ever-growing story. Destiny 2: Lightfall will take players to Neptune and the hidden city of Neomuna, a futuristic metropolis that somehow survived the cataclysm that shattered humanity thousands of years earlier.
This new trailer shows off more of the city than ever before, including a glimpse at some new areas that might hint at some unexpected narrative developments. Neomuna is a neon-drenched marvel that serves as the first truly urban environment Destiny 2 has ever had. Vex and Cabal march through the streets, and the trailer also reveals a brief glimpse at a return to the Vex Network first introduced in Seas of the Splicer.
The trailer also provides a better look at the Cloudstriders, the residents of Neomuna who managed to avoid the Collapse and continue building on their Golden Age progress. These potential allies are the first new truly new alien race introduced into the Destiny universe since the game began. It also marks the first time an alien race hasn’t been initially introduced as an enemy.
Destiny 2: Lightfall will pit the Guardians of Earth against Calus, erstwhile Emperor of the Cabal, and his newfound horde of Darkness-enhanced soldiers. In his new role as a Disciple of the Witness, Calus has access to more power than ever before, including the new enemy unit known as Tormentors. These hulking behemoths have overwhelming strength and the ability to rip the life out of a Guardian with a single move.
Destiny 2: Lightfall launches on February 28th, 2023 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC via Steam.
