Lee “Byrem” Seong-ju is the latest player to sign with the Florida Mayhem as the team reshuffles their roster following their April promise to switch to an all-Korean squad. The former NRG Esports player will join the Mayhem in the flex healer role.
Byrem was one of the stronger players on NRG’s roster, though the San Francisco Shock-associated Overwatch Contenders team posted mixed results during his tenure. After finishing the regular season with a 14-14 record, NRG outpaced Square One and XL2 Academy to tie for third in the Overwatch Contenders 2019 Season 1 North America West Playoffs last month.
Byrem has been a free agent since last week, when NRG announced the dissolution of their Contenders team; he is the first former NRG member to have found a new home in the Overwatch League. As of yet, Eoghan “Smex” O’Neill, Kevin “kevster” Persson, Seo “Stand1” Ji-won, Mark “Pookz” Rendon, and Chris “MirroR” Trịnh remain unsigned.
Prior to his stint with NRG, Byrem briefly played for South Korean Contenders team Team BlossoM, but was released from the team after less than two weeks.
Stage Three of the Overwatch League will begin on June 6, with the Mayhem facing the Seoul Dynasty for their first match at 8:30 p.m Eastern.
