Gas Station Simulator is one of the simulation games by Drago Entertainment where you run a gas station. The Tidal Wave DLC is the second full DLC in the series, let’s see how it stood out.
Gameplay
The gameplay in the DLC doesn't deviate significantly from the base game, but it offers a refreshing change of scenery and additional ways to earn money. Instead of managing a rundown gas station in a remote location, you now oversee one on a beach. Your role expands beyond just fuel services; you become a local tourist attraction by offering scuba diving and surfing equipment rentals after some upgrades. Moreover, your responsibilities extend to catering to jet skis and boats that come for refueling.
Apart from these fundamental differences, players must also contend with the active volcano, Chunchumanchu. A mood bar in the corner gradually rises, presenting various methods to lower it before it reaches critical levels. You can reduce it by returning flopping fish to the ocean, using a coconut dispenser for a small fee to toss coconuts into a tribute pot, or contributing decorations to the pot for a more significant impact on the mood bar.
Graphics and Audio
Graphically, there isn't a significant departure in this DLC. The ocean and sunset views at the beach are aesthetically pleasing, but the overall graphical quality remains basic, including the character models. However, one noticeable detail is the depiction of Chunchumanchu's anger. As the volcano becomes more active, the screen is filled with subtle heat waves, adding a nice touch to the visual experience.
Feedback
While playing, I found it weird that half of the individuals at the gas station were still wearing Christmas hats. Maybe they celebrate Christmas differently on that beach, but it's currently March for me. If a festive touch is desired, perhaps consider giving them Shamrock hats or similar attire. Additionally, I would have appreciated seeing variations in the stands and the selection of food and drinks stocked on the shelves.
Verdict
Gas Station Simulator is incredibly immersive, making it easy to lose track of time while tending to tasks at the gas station. For those who have played the base game extensively and are seeking a fresh experience, the Tidal Wave DLC is a great option as it essentially offers a whole new game under the same branding.
