BORDERLANDS Movie Feels A Little... Off

Silver screen adaptations of video games are a sea of murky waters. Every once in a while we get a really good movie or TV show to come from a video game. For example, The Last of Us show on Max was well received for the most part and the Super Mario Bros movie was surprisingly enjoyable. But, for every TLOU and Super Mario Bros you get at least one like Assassin’s Creed.

With the first trailer for the new Borderlands movie we get to see our first look at the cast and how they’re tackling the story. As a long time Borderlands fan, I’m not impressed. I don’t really mind when characters are casted against the archetype from the video game as long as the acting fits the character. With Kevin Hart, Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jack Black you have some longevity in the careers of these actors, but in my opinion almost none of them have the chemistry with the character, Jack Black aside he seems to be having a ball as Claptrap.

It may be the casting choices, but to me the Borderlands movie looks like it’s made by people who haven’t played Borderlands and it’s made for people that don’t know what it is either. What throws me off is that Randy Pritchford is an executive producer for the movie, you’d think that he would’ve fought harder for it.
